Sclerotherapy for Veins in La Jolla
Living in Southern California means that most of us like to wear shorts and skirts that show off our legs. Whether you're lounging on the beach or visiting the San Diego Wild Animal Park, you probably feel cooler and healthier in sportswear, but if you have unsightly veins, you may feel confined to wearing long pants and long sleeves. And if you feel unattractive in active wear, you may not be as motivated to exercise or to live a healthier lifestyle. Sclerotherapy can remove spider veins and can give you the freedom to wear what you want and the self-esteem to make the most of it.
Many women find after a certain age or after child bearing that unattractive veins begin to appear on their legs and other areas. Men also experience spider veins when excess pressure causes the veins to appear. Weight gain, standing or sitting for long periods, and hormonal fluctuations can all contribute to those spidery, purple and blue vein blemishes that can make your legs look like you've been in an accident. But don't despair, spider veins can be easily removed with sclerotherapy treatment.
Sclerotherapy treatment is the injection of a chemical solution that causes the vein to collapse and disappear. Laser Vein Therapy is also available at La Jolla Dermatology and is especially beneficial for facial spider veins that are too small for sclerotherapy.
Getting sclerotherapy from award winning Dermatologist, Dr. Susan Stuart, ensures that the health of your veins and your skin is essential for the success of your treatment. How Sclerotherapy Works
A saline or sclerosing solution is injected directly into the vein using very tiny needles at intervals of an inch at a time. The solution causes the blood vessel wall to collapse and disappear.
Spider veins can also causing itching, restlessness or aching, and removal can alleviate these symptoms as well. Occasionally, spider veins coupled with other symptoms are a sign of a more serious circulatory problem or disease. It is very important to tell Dr. Stuart of any family history with circulation problems during your initial consultation.
Sclerotherapy treatment can easily remove veins that currently appear with 1 to 3 treatments, but treatment won't stop new spider veins from forming. Dr. Stuart can discuss eating, drinking and behavior modifications that may help reduce the occurrences of new vein formations during your consultation.
Spider Vein Removal at La Jolla Dermatology
Spider vein treatment must be personalized for each patient. A thorough consultation which will include a medical examination and family medical history will be the first step in your treatment. Dr. Stuart will ask you to avoid drinking, taking aspirin and other over the counter vitamins at least two weeks prior to your sclerotherapy treatment to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding.
You should wear shorts or comfortable sweats that can be taken off and put on easily. You should not wear any lotion, sun screen or perfume for your appointment.
Dr. Stuart will begin by cleansing the treatment area. As the sclerosing solution is injected, you may feel a slight sting. After each injection, compression tape will be applied to the treatment area to help collapse the vein. Treatment will take from 15 minutes up to an hour. More than one treatment is often recommended.
Because Dr. Stuart is a world class Dermatologist, you can trust that you're receiving quality medical care which is essential for any treatment involving your veins. Since Dr. Stuart is considered one of "San Diego's leading experts in dermatology and lasers" and has been selected as one of Americas Top Physicians in dermatology, you know you will get the best combination of beauty care, skin care and medical care.
