How Much Does CoolSculpting Cost?
CoolSculpting is the only non-invasive technology to permanently eliminate unwanted fat on nine areas of the body, including the neck. It is safe, FDA approved, and has been in use longer than any other non-invasive method for permanent fat reduction. While much has been written about the CoolSculpting technology available to patients in La Jolla and San Diego, very little has been published on the web regarding the cost of CoolSculpting. Let’s take a close look at the technology and examine the costs associated with this revolutionary technology in non-invasive body contouring.
Provider costs associated with CoolSculpting include both the cost of the actual machine and applicators, but also a consumable called a cycle card. Cycle cards are purchased by the provider from the manufacturer and inserted into the CoolSculpting machine in order for it to complete a treatment. Each time an applicator is applied to freeze the fat to a specific area, one cycle on the card is used much like a debit card. Once the pre-programmed cycles are used in the cycle card, a new cycle card must be inserted for the next treatment.
The company charges a fixed cost to each practice for new cycle cards and the cost varies by applicator. Individual cycle costs range from $150 to $325 per attachment. The average cycle cost for the provider per treatment ranges from $600 to $1,200+. The average patient charge for one application, which allows freezing of one anatomic area, is around $750. If a provider advertises lower than $600 then the company penalizes the provider by doubling the cost of the cycle cards. In this manner, CoolSculpting minimal charges have a relatively fixed rate.
Each freezing session to an anatomic area amounts to about 20-25% permanent fat reduction. However, we have seen many cases where patients have a greater response of up to 50% reduction in fat from a single freezing session by an applicator. Results vary from patient to patient and anatomic area.
While some patients undergo a single treatment, that has not been the experience in our practice where we have done well over 24,000 treatments on over 6,000 patients. We see patients who typically have 4 – 6 anatomic areas treated. The average cost varies from $2,400 to $3,600. This includes more than 1 anatomic area treated simultaneously since we have 2 CoolSculpting machines and offer “dual sculpting” routinely. Common dual sculpting configurations include abdomen with inner or outer thighs, abdomen with inner arms, abdomen with flanks or “love handles” and so forth.
When patients have multiple treatment areas performed at the same time or same CoolSculpting session then it is possible to see a reduced fee below $600 per cycle. Package pricing is really the only way to save on the procedure. For example, 1 cycle at $750, 3 at $700 each, 4 at $675 each, 5 at $640 each, 6 at $600 each and so forth.
