CoolSculpting: The Latest Technological Advances

CoolSculpting® Now Available at La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Practice

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Richard Chaffoo now offers CoolSculpting for non-surgical fat reduction at his La Jolla cosmetic surgery practice. CoolSculpting uses patented fat-freezing technology to shrink the midsection.

La Jolla, California (December 2012) – CoolSculpting, the revolutionary non-surgical fat-freezing procedure, is now available at the La Jolla cosmetic surgery practice of Dr. Richard Chaffoo (www.drchaffoo.com). A plastic surgeon with triple board certification, Dr. Chaffoo specializes in leading-edge surgical and non-surgical procedures for the face, breasts and body.

“No matter how much they diet and exercise, many people find they are left with localized areas of fat that just won’t go away,” Dr. Chaffoo says. “For my San Diego plastic surgery patients, liposuction has traditionally been the best way to deal with these frustrating bulges.”

Now they have another option. CoolSculpting uses patented fat-freezing technology to quickly and easily destroy unwanted fat cells without harming the surrounding tissue. The CoolSculpting device uses gentle suction to pull the tissue between two cooling panels. Since fat freezes at a higher temperature than skin or other tissue, the device is able to cool the area being treated to a carefully monitored temperature that will damage the fat cells without harming the surrounding area.

“Many of my patients are choosing CoolSculpting as a quicker, non-surgical alternative to liposuction in San Diego,” says Dr. Chaffoo, who has recently added the procedure to his full range of treatment options. “It only takes about an hour per treatment area, and there’s no recovery time. It’s so simple that patients can come in on their lunch hour, sit back and relax during the treatment, then go right back to their regular daily schedule as soon as they leave my office.”

Some patients may experience some redness, swelling or bruising following the procedure, Dr. Chaffoo says, but it’s rarely uncomfortable enough to interfere with their regular activities.

Results emerge gradually over a period of weeks to months as the fat cells are broken down and eliminated by the body.

“After just one treatment, patients can see as much as a 25% reduction in fat in the treated area,” Dr. Chaffoo says. “As a result, one treatment is often all a person needs to get the results he or she desires. However, with additional treatments, they can get rid of even more fat.”

Dr. Chaffoo points out that CoolSculpting is not designed to treat large areas of fat and that it does not work on as many areas of the body as liposuction does. He still recommends liposuction for more extensive and precise body contouring. If a patient is dealing with large amounts of sagging skin around the midsection, he will often recommend a tummy tuck.

“Every patient is different, and every patient’s needs are different,” says the triple-board-certified plastic surgeon. “I recommend that any patient who is considering body contouring come in for a consultation. This way, I can see exactly what needs to be done and which areas of the body need to be addressed in order to create a sleeker, smoother physique.”
